This workshop focuses on developing technology-centered learning experiences using research based instructional strategies. Participants will explore the strategies presented by Marzano, et al. in What Works in Classroom Instruction. After choosing a strategy, participants will develop a lesson or unit that incorporates the strategy through the use of technology.

Participants will have an opportunity to explore the Lesson Activity Toolkit as well as online lessons and resources that can be easily integrated into full class activities or individualized lessons. Teachers will be provided time to create at least one lesson using the tools that are geared for their specific content area.

There are many different definitions of "digital storytelling" but in general, all of them revolve around the idea of combining the longstanding art of telling stories and traditional writing with any variety of available multimedia tools including graphics, audio, video animation, and Web publishing.

This three-day workshop will present various virtual environments (River City, Second Life, Active Worlds, etc.) Teachers will then collaborate to share and discuss their educational learning. Information Literacy
Do you suffer from TMI (too much information)? This workshop will address ways to locate and evaluate information sources, and teach your students to do the same. We will cover copyright rules and issues, emphasizing what you can do, with examples of how teachers have used materials properly and effectively. Internet safety and digital rights management will also be addressed, in light of the ever emerging new tools of Web 2.0. Topics will include how to detect plagiarism, how to test a Website’s validity, and how teachers and library media specialists can work together to foster student success.

i-SAFE Professional Development Program
This workshop reveals the dangers students are exposed to online and strategies to combat them. Issues addressed include pornography, hate groups, delinquency, malicious code, bullying and personal safety (predators and identity thieves). Completion of this workshop entitles the teacher to use the free i-SAFE curriculum and well as certification necessary to train other district personnel. Time is included for exploring the K-12 curriculum, related Internet safety websites, and how the district will implement the curriculum.

This workshop will be an informational workshop with an open discussion taking place on ideas of how these resources fit into the classroom.
